Welcome to Spanish IA and Spanish IB!

Before going into more information about each of these classes, I would like to provide you with some information about me.  As a student myself, I attended Prince William County schools and did my student teaching at both Featherstone Elementary and Hylton High School.  I have always had a great love of languages and of educating children, so when I was offered the chance to teach Spanish I to middle school students here at Pennington, and ESOL to students at Penn Elementary (my former elementary school!), I jumped at it.

Teaching two different subject areas at two different schools and levels can be quite challenging and at times, more time-consuming than I wish, so if you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask.  In addition, I am available most days after school for students to receive remediation, to retake assessments, or to conference with me about the class.  If you or your child would like to take advantage of this offering, please let me know and we will coordinate a day that works.

As for my classes, Spanish IA is for seventh grade students and is provided on an every-other-day basis for the duration of the 2019-2020 school year.  During this year, we will be covering the first two unit of high school Spanish I, which includes Unit I (Global Community) and Unit II (School).  Spanish IB is for eighth grade students and is also provided on an every-other-day basis for the duration of the 2019-2020 school year.  During this year, we will be covering the final two units of high school Spanish I, which includes Unit III (Home Life) and Unit IV (Community).  Throughout both years, there will be a heavy focus on learning the basic of the Spanish language and plentiful opportunities to practice the language, including oral and visual presentations.  Additional information about each unit will come home throughout the year and be posted for your access.

Because this is a high school course, the final course grade will be achieved at the end of Spanish IB.  If, for some reason, you and your student do not wish to include this final grade as part of your overall GPA, it can be expunged.  Please contact our director of school counseling, Ms. Atkins, for more information about this.

Thank you for your support!  I am looking forward to a strong end of the year!
